On Christmas Eve…

Reigne: Ma, what time maabot si Santa? (Ma, what time will Santa come?)
Mama: 12 o’clock pa, ‘day.
Reigne: May number ka ni Santa, Ma? (Do you have his number, Ma?)
Mama: Ngaa, anhon mo? (Why, what will you do with it?)
Reigne: Ma-call na lang ko Ma, kadugay sa iya. (I’ll give him a call because he’s taking too long.)

Didaylicious Commentaries #4

In the spirit of Barack Obama’s historical election as the 44th President of the Unites States of America, my niece makes a commentary on the democratic act of voting.

Reigne: Ma, ano ang eleksyon? (Ma, what’s an election?)
Mama: Vote, mapili bala haw. (Voting, or when you choose.)
Reigne: Ok, ma-eleksyon man ko gali sang favorite shapes ko. (Okay. I’m going to have an election on my favorite shapes.)

Mama Fots, you have to be a bit less lazy about giving definitions. Hahaha!

Didaylicious Commentaries #5

I’m guessing they miss each other, as Tala quite often makes similar comments about getting together.

Ma, masakay naman ta sa eroplano, kadto ta kay Tala. Ma-play kami. (Ma, let’s ride an airplane again. Let’s go to Tala. We’ll play.)

In the spirit of All Souls’ Day, my cousin Fots sends another one of my niece Reigne’s little pearls of wisdom.

As usual, maraming kamag-anak ni Nanay ang dumaan dito sa bahay kahapon galing and papuntang sementeryo. Ang anak ko, every time may dumating takbo sa computer room sabay sabi:

“Ma, damo to bala tawo sa terasa! Damo dead, Ma! Gwa to bla, good afternoon sa ila! QUE HORROR!!!”

(As usual, relatives came by on their way to and from the cemetery. Every time someone came along, my daughter ran to the computer room to say: Ma, there are a lot of people on the terrace! There are a lot of dead people, Ma! Go out and say good afternoon! QUE HORROR!!!)

According to my very smart niece, who recently took her final exams in preschool and only got one question wrong (I’m hoping it wasn’t a math question):

“Ang Power Puff Girls maliliit, di ba? Paglaki nila, sila na yung Totally Spies.” (The Power Puff Girls are small, right? When they grow up, they become Totally Spies.)

Makes sense, actually.

I have yet another new character! Let me introduce my niece Reigne Dee, more popularly known as Diday (a nickname she absolutely loathes), who is a few months younger than Tala and Zivv, but whose mother, Fots, is my oldest cousin on my mom’s side.

Diday lives in Bacolod with her mommy and daddy, and comes over to Manila on vacations whenever there’s a special occasion, such as a trip to the beach on Holy Week or a tita’s wedding.

On Mary Poppins, which she watched on the Disney Channel: “Ma, ang girl si Mary, ang boy si Poppins?”

Still on Mary Poppins: “Vintage telephone, o, Ma. May microphone!”
